201 South Larchmont Blvd, Larchmont Village

Offered at $915,000
floorplan

Set in the much desired neighborhood of Larchmont Village is this uniquely crafted home with its’ bold architecture and sense of independence. Constructed primarily of cedar, inside and out, it has an almost organic nature about it. This home was designed by and built for Adriana Caselotti and her husband Dr. J. Dana Costigan in 1976. Adriana is best known for her role as the voice of Snow White in the original, full length animated Walt Disney classic, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” which had its premiere in December of 1937.

Architectural features of the house include a hipped, cross-gable roof, 3 dramatic cross hatched clerestory windows and soaring 18’ high vaulted ceilings in the main entrance room and adjoining bedroom. With it’s flared eaves and notched and exposed rafter tails this home has a clearly defined asian feel and is reminiscent of a Japanese Tea Garden Pavilion. Additionally, the bridge positioned in the front yard and the “gateway” symbol found over the front door welcoming guests are further influences of Japanese and asian cultures. The original renderings and plans for the house also show a series of 5 retracting shoji screens and a “moon gate” entrance into the living room which were planned for future implementation, but were never executed. The massive wood beam construction and interiors evidence the strength and quality of this custom designed home.

An open floor plan which spans a space of  56’ is ideal for intimate and large scale entertaining. Other features include two en-suite bedrooms, custom designed bar, additional half bath and sliding doors leading to the side deck which create an effortless flow for indoor/outdoor living/entertaining. A large scale “tropical” themed painting in the living room was done by Disney studio artist R. Mitchell in 1978 and will stay with the house. There is an attached two car garage with direct access into the house.

The japan jardannais or minimalist garden with evergreens, paver paths and fruit trees is also reflective of an asian esthetic and simplicity of design. Of course, accenting the north east corner of the garden, and not to be missed, is Adriana’s or Snow White’s “whimsical” wishing well.
